Go into summer feeling (and looking) great!

I had such a great response to my Down-and-Dirty Whole Food Cleanse in May with dozens of people joining me to clean up their diets before summer, AND I have had so many requests from people who couldn’t make the May dates work for them, SO I decided to do an encore Spring Cleanse and squeeze it into the final weeks of spring.

My Down-and-Dirty Cleanse, Part Deux will launch June 2 – June 18 – and you can join for the incredible price of just $29. I’ve lowered the price because I am passionate about this opportunity and want everyone to be able to afford it!

If you saw my emails about my Cleanse in May and thought you would like to do it but other priorities got in the way, this is your chance to get it done before summer ramps up.

Sometimes we let some things slide, even important things, because we lack the time or energy or knowledge to deal with them. That’s the reason for my Seasonal Cleanse Group Program. I have figured out everything you need to nourish your body and I give it to you, plus the support you need to continue your healthy eating patterns, in one simple, affordable $29 package.

Don’t let this priority slide any longer. Everything you need is ready and waiting for you in one easy-to-use, well-supported program.

My seasonal cleanse for Spring of 2014 is called the “Down-and-Dirty” Whole Food Cleanse, because we jump into this cleanse and get our bodies running so much better in just 17 days. There will be one week of pre-cleanse food and activities. three days of deep cleaning with simple, whole foods, and then one week of post-cleanse protocol to transition into a healthy summer lifestyle.

The Down-and-Dirty Cleanse, Part Deux package includes suggested menus, tasty recipes, helpful shopping lists, simple daily protocols, great information, how-to conference calls and online support via Facebook.

It’s simple. It’s supported. It works.

Being on the fence is hard. It’s time to move your health needs to the top of the list. Everyone wins when we take care of ourselves!

Warmly, LaRae

What You Can Expect From My Whole Food Cleanse

After completing my Winter seasonal cleanse, Brian and I felt lighter and full of energy for snorkeling, running, hiking and dancing in Loreto, Mexico

After completing my Winter seasonal cleanse, Brian and I felt lighter and full of energy for snorkeling, running, hiking and dancing in Loreto, Mexico

Last fall I launched my first Seasonal Cleanse Group Program, and I supported a second one in February. Now I am ready to launch my third Seasonal Cleanse Group Program – The Down-and-Dirty-Spring-Cleaning Whole Foods Cleanse.

Besides having a spectacular name, it features a host of new and delicious recipes focusing on lighter, spring fare and is just the ticket for getting ready for your active summer.

Participants in my past two programs have LOVED the results! Using their feedback, I have simplified the cleanse, so you can easily customize it to reach your goals.

And based on their experiences I can tell you exactly what you can expect.

One participant said, “Tell them they will never be hungry!” She was so surprised to find that the transition from Standard American Diet (SAD) into the 4 days of deep cleanse did not leave her feeling hungry or deprived.

This happy and healthy cleanse participant is a 62 year old mother of 5 and grandmother of 12!

This happy and healthy cleanse participant, a 62 year old mother of 5 and grandmother of 12, says the cleanse changed her and her husband’s eating habits permanently for the better.

Many participants delightfully reported, “The food is delicious!” They have found new favorite recipes that they use regularly in their menu planning. I run every recipe through my kitchen, and test them until they work easily and taste great.

After her first week on the cleanse, another participant with food allergies shared, “This was the kick I needed to get me back off the wheat and dairy. Feeling so much better.”

Lastly, I love this one: “The main thing I have noticed and been grateful for is that cravings are not nearly as big a problem for me as before.” And everyone says the same thing about cravings. They just fade away – usually in 3-4 days.

Please join this program – for just $29 – if these are the outcomes you are looking for in your life:

#1 – Kick Old Habits
Whether you need a jumpstart as we head into summer or an entirely new approach to healthy eating, the Down-and-Dirty-Spring-Cleaning Whole Foods Cleanse will help you get there.

#2 – Get Energized
You will get off the energy roller coaster with foods that bring energy that lasts. Wake up ready to go. Break out of brain fog. Say goodbye to your afternoon sugar crash. You are going to love the way you feel.

#3 – Drop Unwanted Pounds
When you feed your body clean, whole foods you boost your metabolism with pure fuel, instead of bogging it down with foods that are toxic and difficult to digest. Past Cleanse participants have reported easy weight loss of 5-10 pounds across 3 weeks.

#4 – Cleanse Your Body
Your digestive system and other filtering organs like your liver will love the lighter load of clean foods and other cleansing activities you can choose to do during the program. The Cleanse will increase your organs’ capacity to flush and clear away toxins – leaving your body functioning more efficiently.

Do some spring cleaning from the inside out and feel better than you’ve felt in years!

Move From SAD To Glad Today

Go from SAD to Glad.

Go from SAD to Glad.

I am really excited to launch my next seasonal whole food cleanse on May 12th. Let me share just a few of the reasons why you should join my Down-and-Dirty-Spring-Cleaning Whole Foods Cleanse:

  • Nothing flattens your tummy like 12 days of clean eating.
  • Lose 5 pounds in 2 weeks.
  • Get rid of those crazy cravings for crappy food.
  • Discover what foods help you feel energized.
  • Springtime is a great time to dump foods that leave you lethargic, bloated or uncomfortable.
  • Complete your spring cleaning, by giving yourself the gift of clean eating.

We have all read articles and attended classes that teach the troubles associated with the Standard American Diet (SAD – its acronym tells the truth!) and the benefits of eating REAL food. So why are we still eating stuff MADE IN a plant instead of GROWN ON a plant?

It can be hard to transition from where we are to where we want to be when it comes to eating. Our habits, comfort zones and cravings keep pulling us back. We want to eat healthy food, but we also want that food to taste good.

With my support and using the great materials you will receive, you will be able to make the transition to eating a sustainable diet of clean, whole and delicious foods. And all of this costs just $29!

If you have ever wondered when or how you were going to make the commitment to take care of yourself by eating really well, NOW is the time and THIS CLEANSE is the way.

Don’t delay! Sign up today for my Down-and-Dirty-Spring-Cleaning Whole Foods Cleanse. At just $29 you can afford to do it and you will be GLAD you did.

i look forward to working with you!

Have You Finished Your Spring Cleaning?

Have you finished your spring cleaning? Even if your windows are washed, your cupboards are organized and your garage is swept out, there is one more thing you might want to clean up this spring – YOU! Isn’t it time to de-junk your diet or toss the winter weight or polish up your waistline just in time for summer?

You’re lining up the kids’ summer camps, organizing your family reunion and bringing life back to your lawn and gardens. Have you scheduled some self-care in your summer? I’m not talking about sitting by the pool reading trashy novels or sleeping late (although you might want to plan a little pampering!), but the kind of self-care that brings energy and vitality and makes you feel good just being in your body.

Join me for my Down-and-Dirty-Spring-Cleaning Whole Foods Cleanse. Yep, we are going to squeeze in a whole lot of clean eating between Mother’s Day and Memorial Day weekend – taking 12 days to transform our bodies and get ready for summer from May 12th through May 23rd.

For just $29, I will provide you with a fully-supported cleanse program including lots of delicious, seasonal, clean-food recipes. This is the third cleanse I have supported and these are the best recipes I have offered yet! You will not be hungry – and you will not feel deprived. You will get rid of cravings for junk food. And you can continue to enjoy your clean eating lifestyle long after the cleanse is over.

Join my Down-and-Dirty-Spring-Cleaning Whole Foods Cleanse today.

Let’s do this together and get ready for a happy, healthy summer!

Meet Your Weight Loss Goals Using my Whole Food Cleanse

If you have 10 or even 20 pounds you have been trying to budge for months or even years, now is a good time to let it go. And using my Whole Foods Cleanse is a great way to launch that effort. With no gimmicks or costly supplements needed, here are some of the important ways my whole food cleanse will help you lose weight.

  • Eliminate Highly-Processed Carbohydrates. These foods get special treatment from the body, taking blood sugar and insulin levels to roller-coaster ride every day, causing insulin resistance and fat retention.
  • Detect and Eliminate Food Sensitivities. Foods you are sensitive to cause reactions in your immune system – some immediate and others delayed – which in turn block insulin receptors impeding weight loss and even causing weight gain.
  • Reduce Inflammation. Inflammation is the underlying cause of almost all chronic disease – including obesity. Refined and processed foods are highly inflammatory and by reducing them we reduce inflammation and its accompanying state of insulin resistance – not to mention dangerous blood lipid and vascular conditions along with the achy joints of osteoarthritis.
  • Eat Foods that Fill. Whole food, real food, food that resembles its natural state, is more filling, higher in fiber and not metabolized so quickly. It fills you up better and keeps you full longer, meaning you can eat less calories and be satisfied day after day.
  • Eat Foods that Nourish. Whole food, real food, food grown on a plant, not made in a plant, is full of nutrients your body can recognize and easily assimilate. And when your body is well-nourished it functions more efficiently. As it hums along healthfully and happily on the clean fuel of real food, extra pounds are shed more easily.
  • Get Great Support. You receive a great guidebook complete with the cleanse program, menus and recipes, and lifestyle suggestions. You have email access to me with your questions. You are part of a private Facebook group for sharing and questions. Three conference calls ensure that you know exactly how to implement and transition through the cleanse. Plus there is a bonus consultation with me at the end to make sure you keep moving forward with a clean lifestyle.

Feed your body. Lose the fat. I can help.

This Crazy Journey

I am not being negative when I say that my journey through life – and especially my journey to health – is little bit crazy. Contrary to popular opinion, going from point A to point B often means meandering through points O, G, Q and W – in that order! As I learn and apply principles of health and figure out what works for me in food and fitness, I find that I am frequently doubling back on my journey to tweak and refine and re-prioritize. (Sounds a lot like parenting, doesn’t it?)

So where is this moment of reflective rant coming from? Last month I received word that my total cholesterol is 206 – and my ratio of LDL and HDL wasn’t that great. How does it happen that at my leanest and fittest in over 25 years my cholesterol is at its highest?!

When I re-trace my journey, about 3 years ago I chose to eliminate all trans-fats from my diet. At the same time, I also chose not to limit my fat intake, but to be mindful of eating healthier fats. I made that decision because I was trying to heal from adrenal fatigue and massive hormone shifts along with their accompanying brain ‘fog’ and anxiety – and many of the nutrients the brain needs are fat-soluble.

Fast-forward 3 years and I am a happy and healthy 54 year-old woman who now needs to become very conscious of monitoring my consumption of fats – both quantity and quality. New day, new game.

I’ve been here before on this journey. For instance, I gave up weight lifting classes to let compression in my back heal, and now I have returned to resistance training, albeit safer alternatives, to keep my back and core strong to avoid compression issues. It’s not discouraging to me though. Change is good – it’s evidence of movement, which is required to make progress.

And though my journey forward is often more circuitous than straight line (“Serpentine! Serpentine!” cries Alan Arkin), it gets me where I am going in a way that works for me.

I hope your journey does the same.

PS My other health indicators are all very good, so I am grateful for the opportunity to address this issue now. Here are links with more information about healthy weight obesity and how to change it:

My 5-Strategy Plan for Healthier, Happy Holidays:

I blogged about making a plan to support a healthy holiday lifestyle. So I thought I would share My 5-Strategy Plan for the holidays this year. These strategies support me in my weakest areas. Reading them you can tell that I have a tendency to over-commit my time during the holidays, undervalue my own physical needs and make poor food choices because I am stressed and tired.

5 Box Check Off

Hopefully this example of my plan will help you formulate your own 5-Strategy Plan. Please know that I haven’t met anyone that is perfect at this yet, so be forgiving of yourself when you forget what you are trying to accomplish. Re-commit. Start again. Move on.

  1. Workout four times each week. I have five workouts planned into my weekly calendar. If I miss one, I am still on track. If I miss another, I can re-schedule it on one of my free days.
  2. Big Green Salad for lunch. This changes my appetite and my paradigm about holiday treats. Salads take time to prepare and they engage my senses – smell, touch, sight, taste (I always pick as I chop.) and sound (My dog comes running when the knife hits the cutting board.) Salads are real food, and I am sated when I finish eating one.
  3. Go to Bed by 11 PM. Enough said.
  4. Get up by 6:30 AM. See above.
  5. Sit Down and Relax. Put together a puzzle. Read a book. Call my mother. Talk to my husband.

The reasoning for #3, 4, and 5 is the same. There are only so many hours in a day. If I am going to both prepare for and enjoy the holidays, something has got to give. Let “IT” go – whatever “IT” is. You and I both know that we are the only ones who will notice if “IT” does not happen. (Just make sure “IT” is NOT you and your well-being.)

What will be noticed by us and those we love is that holidays planned with health and happiness in mind will bring peace and strength and joy and renewal.

They will not deplete. They will enrich.

Happy Holidays Greeting

Wishing you a Happy, Healthy Holiday Season.

Party with a Plan!

Are Holiday Stress, Fatigue and Weight Gain Inevitable?

From “Trick-or-Treat” to “Happy New Year!” the last two months of the year are packed with temptations to sleep and eat poorly, skip our workouts and stress ourselves with too many commitments.

If you typically arrive at January feeling healthier and more rested than you were when you set your clock back in October, then read no further. But if you are already starting to crave January with its promise of quiet evenings, healthier foods and a good night’s rest, then it’s time to make a plan for your holiday party self.

Customize your plan to support healthier, happier choices instead of your annual festive foibles and follies. I like a plan with five strategies. Five strategies are enough to give me lots of support while remaining manageable.

Here are a few great strategies to kick your brain into planning mode:

If you are very susceptible to the power of suggestion, keep healthier snack options around the house and office to eat when someone  shows up with holiday goodies.

Make appointments with yourself to go to bed, exercise, wake up, etc. Commit in writing to take care of yourself, so you can enjoy the holidays.

Eat a healthy breakfast and lunch. For me that means steel-cut oats, green smoothies, salads and veggies. If I start off my day nutritiously, other good choices follow.

Remember your mother’s advice: Don’t eat between meals. Plan your meals and snacks and then no more nibbling. It  spoils your appetite for healthy foods and adds hundreds of unnecessary calories.

Choose one indulgence at a party and eat just one serving of it. (If the “Betcha can’t eat just one” jingle was written with you in mind, this is not a good strategy!)

Remember that it is a holi-DAY, not a holi-WEEK or holi-MONTH. Carry on with your healthy lifestyle activities on non-holidays. When Christmas and New Year’s roll around, plan some healthy choices into your celebrations along with some of the traditional indulgences.

Allow yourself to enjoy your holiday festivities. Don’t beat yourself up. Guilt won’t get you back on track or change your choices. Re-boot your healthy lifestyle the next day with an invigorating work-out and a protein smoothie.

Let your past holiday trouble spots help you determine what your 5 strategies will be. Wake up each day and re-commit to your plan. It’s the foundation on which you build the rest of your day – in fact your whole holiday season.

Highlight Quotes from “A Grateful Heart” – A Speech by Ray L. Huntington

A great quote helps me to dive deeper into a subject and appreciate it more. Today’s topic is gratitude. Here’s enough quotes to keep us all ’til Thanksgiving…and beyond!

Thanksgiving 2010

“The root of joy is gratefulness… It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.” – David Steindl-Rast, Benedictine monk

“As gratitude involves wanting what one has rather than having what one wants, instilling a sense of gratitude may help people appreciate the gifts of the moment and experience freedom from past regrets and future anxieties.” – from Gratitude and the Reduced Costs of Materialism in Adolescents, Journal of Happiness Studies 12

Thanksgiving 2012

“The practice of gratitude is incompatible with negative emotions and may actually diminish or deter such feelings as anger, bitterness, and greed.” – Sonja Lyubomirsky, The How of Happiness: A Scientific Approach to Getting the Life You Want

Thanksgiving 2007-1

“The grateful man sees so much in the world to be thankful for, and with him the good outweighs the evil. Love overpowers jealousy, and light drives darkness out of his life. Pride destroys our gratitude and sets up selfishness in its place. How much happier we are in the presence of a grateful and loving soul, and how careful we should be to cultivate through the medium of a prayerful life, a thankful attitude toward God and Man!” – Joseph F. Smith

Thanksgiving Cuffs

“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” – Psalms 106:1

Thanksgiving 2011

“Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend…when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present – love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us happiness – the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience heaven on earth.” – Sarah Ban Breathnach

“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” – Epictetus

Thanksgiving 2007

And lastly, answering the question of why should we express our gratitude out loud Mark Twain said, “I can live for two months on a good compliment.”

Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall Fruit Salad

While preparing recipes for my Fall Cleanse program, we discovered this little gem. Four of us just about foundered on it. Pretty, flavorful and easy with just four ingredients this salad became an instant favorite at our house.

Beautiful, delicious and easy with just four fresh ingredients!

Beautiful, delicious and easy with just four fresh ingredients!

Growing up in the Northwest, persimmons weren’t even on my radar. A few years ago we ate a sample at a farmers market in San Francisco and we have been hooked ever since. I see them everywhere from Costco to Raleys to Whole Foods this time of year for about $1 each. Let them ripen to a bright orange and then dig in. On the inside they are shaped and seeded like a tomato, so remove the stem and slice or dice – there is no wrong way.

My oldest brother served a mission for our church in Southern California in the 60’s. When he returned to Idaho, he introduced us to pomegranates and peace bead necklaces. All these years later pomegranates are the ‘IT’ fruit (having outlasted the peace beads!). Right now they are in season and about $1.50 each. Full of flavor, color and anti-oxidants, you can throw pomegranate seeds in everything from salads to smoothies or sprinkle them on your hot cereal. If you are unsure how to approach a pomegranate, click here for a great little tutorial. If you are still intimidated, you can buy pomegranate arils packaged in the produce section at $5 for a half cup.

Until you make the salad, pile the fruit in a bowl on your counter for dramatic seasonal color! So gorgeous. So nutritious. Such a great addition to your holidays.
